July and August 2010

The end of the pond

Once again we have been pleased with how the garden looked this summer. The borders have had so much colour. The rose we planted in 2008 has doubled in size, and the new coreopsis lining the path have brightened up the area. We hope they get through the winter.

There have  been some spectacular lilies -

- and plenty of summer garden visitors

The bullfinches and goldfinch seem to be regular visitors now, and we've had several nests.

Sadly, though, some good things have to come to an end. The pond has been losing water since the winter ,due, possibly ,to a slit caused by the ice, and has to be topped up every couple of days, so a change is necessary. Having considered all possibilities we have decided on a completely different layout as the sixteen year old liner is probably too brittle to repair. So take a last look at the pond as we know it.

Looks like the frogs know something is about to happen and can't wait to leave.

Finally, on Wednesday August 11th, the big pond change began ---

--- and by the end of the day there wasn't a lot left to look at.
