OUR BACK GARDEN - WINTER 2010

The first snow of this winter (2010 - 2011) arrived in late November. We woke on 27th November to a light covering - perfect for a photo shoot. A couple of days later we had hours of blizzards.

By the beginning of December we wondered how we would dig ourselves out as the spade was in the shed at the bottom of the garden - but at least we had to try to reach it.

Once down the garden it was not really a case of 'hunt the spade' but more ' where did the shed and greenhouse go?'

The birds still needed feeding . Surely they must have wondered why they were on the ground which was now level with the top of the lamps? The table top was hardly recognisable.

Evening light made a ghostly scene. Just before Christmas the pond and statues emerged and things gradually got back to normal.

When the first snow fell we felt confident we would still have buses running.

A few days later there was no chance of that.

The car stayed hidden for a week until we finally managed to dig it out.

In January things gradually got better although we had temperatures as low as -14, and were hoping the plants would survive.

By February 2011 all was as it should be and the first few flowers were out.
